Academic Programs

Core Reading & Math Curriculum and Supplemental Learning Plan

Global Citizenship & Language Learning Pathways

  • Biliteracy Program - In our biliteracy program, students learn in both English and Spanish. In the early grades, the language emphasis is in Spanish and as students move through the grades, English instruction is increased. Our philosophy promotes developing, enriching and preserving the two languages.

  • Global Scholars through Global Cities Inc - This program is to connect students to other students from around the world through shared projects, learning, and discourse.

  • The Global Goals Project - Students learn about the Sustainable Development Goals for improving the world in education, healthcare, access to quality food and water, and the environment.  They generate projects to address one of the goals.

Science Programs

  • STEAM & Mystery Science - Students participate in lessons aligned to the Next Generation Science Standards (NGSS)

  • Ocean Discovery - Students learn about the Pacific Ocean ecosystem through our partnership with Ocean Discovery in City Heights, which includes lessons and field trips.

  • Fleet Science Field Trips - Through the Price Philanthropies Grant, students are able to participate in various scientific labs through the Fleet Science Center in Balboa Park.

  • Edison Science Lab - Dedicated space for science experimentation.

  • Gardening Spaces & Fruit orchard - Various spaces for gardening on campus.

Visual and Performing Arts Programs

  • Rainforest Art Project - 5th graders engaged in developing a tile mosaic that will be presented and portrayed in a public space on the Edison campus.

  • Music Classes - 4th and 5th grade students benefit from a district music program in which they have the opportunity to engage in choir, band, or orchestra. The program culminates with an end of year concert for families.

  • Visual & Performing Arts - All students engage in visual arts projects through their homeroom.  We utilize Arts Attack lessons, online guided drawing lessons, and other hands-on projects.

Leadership Development

  • Student Council - Students have elections and elected students help with student activities.

  • Cesar Chavez Service Club (Chavistas) - A weekly after school program for students in grades 4 and 5. This program helps students to develop leadership skills.

  • Leader In Me - This program will build students' skills in leadership, highly successful habits, and responsibility.  We are one of select schools throughout San Diego participating.

Physical Activity & Sports

  • PE - Students receive weekly PE for 60 minutes. A price philanthropies grant enables additional breakdancing classes during PE in spring.
